The mission of the Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology is to regulate the instruction and practice of cosmetology and related professions by establishing rules and regulations relating to qualifications for licensure and procedures for the administration of examination prior to licensure, and by establishment of rules and regulations setting forth sanitation requirements for the operation of cosmetological establishments, for the benefit of the consumer and for the public health.

Pursuant to Statute 73-7-7, Rule 2.6 regarding fees:

Application for renewal of licenses which are not accompanied by the provided renewal form are assessed a fee for lost renewal form. 

The assessed fee is $10.  A substitute renewal form may be found under Applications and Forms on our website at www.msbc.ms.gov   ​



MS State Board of Cosmetology is pleased to announce that practitioner licenses can now be renewed online.  By including an electronic payment option for licensure, we increase efficiency, reduce costs, and provide an overall better experience for our licensed professionals. 


Once a renewal is successfully processed, licensees will receive an email confirmation of payment that may be used as proof of licensure until the paper license is received. ​

No Cash Payments
Effective July 1, 2017, MS State Board of Cosmetology will no longer accept cash payments. 


The payment options are check or money order.​

What is the processing time for a new or renewed license?
Licenses are mailed 6-8 weeks from the date of qualification. The qualification date for renewals is the date the correct fee, renewal form and passport photo is received in the Board office; for new practitioners it is the date the correct fee, examination results and passport photo are received; for new salons, it is the date the approval was received from the inspector.​
