RECIPROCITY BY LICENSURE
Out of state applicants requesting licensure by reciprocity must meet OR exceed the following requirements:
Cosmetologist Requirements
- 1500 Hours
- 12th Grade Education
Nail Technician Requirements
- 350 Hours
- 12th Grade Education
Esthetician Requirements
- 600 Hours
- 12th Grade Education
Applicants must provide a certification of hours and/or license from the state licensing agency where the hours were obtained. This is to be requested by the applicant from the licensing agency of the state they are transferring from and must be submitted from the transferring state. Certifications cannot be accepted from the applicant. All out-of-state hours must be certified by the State Board or Official Licensing Agency of the state the hours were obtained in. Only hours certified by the state licensing agencies will be accepted. If the state where the hours were obtained offers apprenticeship hours, a certified school transcript will need to be submitted verifying that no apprenticeship hours were earned.
Applicants requesting license from out of the country must have their transcript translated by an approved translator prior to submission.
All applicants licensed less than three (3) years will be required to complete the Theory and Practical Examination.

If the applicant’s hours obtained out-of state are equivalent OR exceed to Mississippi’s hourly requirement then the applicant will apply as an Out-of-State Exam applicant.
If the applicant does not have enough hours to match Mississippi’s hourly requirement the applicant must complete remaining hours required for that license in a school of cosmetology in Mississippi before applying for the licensing exam.

RECIPROCITY FROM MISSISSIPPI TO ANOTHER STATE
Mississippi license holders transferring their license from Mississippi to another state, must complete a certification request with payment.
